How did you get involved in acting?
I was originally involved in dance competitions and danced at the Center of Creative Arts (COCA), but then got tired of the competitions. My first play was in junior high school and I started really acting at age 16. I first signed with TalentPlus in 1998.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am a mother of two. (Especially when I first begin a new job!)
What are your words to live by?
Never judge a book by its cover.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Bringing things back to life with DIY projects, buying old junk, and any creative challenges
If you could play a starring role in any movie, what would it be and why?
A comedy set in a tropical paradise—like “Couple’s Retreat”.
Describe yourself in one word.
Versatile
What is a song that describes your life?
“Right to be Wrong” by Joss Stone
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Jamaica: not because it’s a touristy place. I love the lifestyle, music, and overall environment. It’s such a cultural trip, and my husband has cultural ties to Jamaica.
I think it’s beautiful when…
You are able to do something that you love.
If you were to end up stranded on a deserted island but could bring one item with you, what would it be?
A book to read and record memories in, so that I could keep my mind together.
What is some advice that you would give to someone aspiring to be an actor?
Patience is key. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Acting is a creative outlet, so don’t rush things. Apply criticism to help your craft. Don’t beat yourself down.
What kind of things should an aspiring actor be involved in to prepare themselves for this field of work?
Theatre! This helps you feed off other actors and appreciate a different element of acting. Theatre is the core of acting.
What has been your biggest achievement in the field of acting?
That I’ve done it for half of my life and have kept my passion alive for this long.
Which has been your favorite character that you have performed?
Woman in Furs in "Marisol": it was not a type-casted performance. The role was gritty and emotional. She is a fierce, crazy woman; I really enjoyed the challenge.
What kind of roles have you performed throughout your career? Are you satisfied with them?
I love the creative work that comes out of theatre. I would love to be Blanche from “A Streetcar Named Desire.” I love acting; it’s important to remember that you age with your craft.
