Love Your Lashes

Mascara is a hugely popular beauty product. Its’ probably safe to say that even people who don’t wear much makeup probably still use mascara. It can look natural to dramatic, depending on the application technique and the brand of mascara.

Good mascara, unless it is old or dried out, should not clump or crumble. You shouldn’t see flakes or crumbles of it under your eye. If you are noticing any of this, you need to toss your mascara. If it is a new tube that is doing this, it’s time to find a new kind of mascara.

The general rule is to toss your mascara after it’s been in use for 3 months or sooner if you notice any clumping or crumbling. When it starts to dry out is when it starts to clump and crumble making it hard to use and can lead to the dreaded “tarantula lashes”!

Even if it still seems good after 3 months toss it anyway, it can carry loads of bacteria. A little trick is to write on your mascara tube (with a label maker, marker, or nail polish) the date in-which you opened it. Then you will have a good idea of when it will need to be thrown away. I know mascara can be pricey, especially the makeup counter brands, but I have found over my many years of trying out different kinds, a few good low-cost ones that I always rely on.

Here are my top 3 favorite drug store mascaras!

e.l.f. Mineral Infused Mascara: It has a silicone brush that separates and lengthens each lash. The formula drys soft to the touch yet hold your lashes all day.

L’Oreal’s Great Lash: My Go-to mascara and I also use it in my kit. Its very basic yet does the job well. Goes on smooth with nice coverage and depending on what brush you apply it with (they offer lots of brush applicator choices) you can lengthen, thicken and separate with your choice of brush.

L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara: I really like this formula. Very smooth to apply and gives great separation and adds loads of thickness.
