The 3 Makeup Must Haves
I am on the go a lot, as I bet you are too. Sometimes it’s just not possible to get ready fast enough. Lets face it, sometimes we just don’t have the time to devote to our morning makeup routine. With less time, we can’t be fussing with ten or more different makeup products.
When time is limited, I turn to three makeup products. They are all small enough to fit in your handbag, and they will allow you to put on a fresh face quickly and easily. These are your 3 makeup must haves!
ONE: A concealer pencil—A basic concealer to match your skin color that will conceal under-eye circles, discoloration, or blemishes.
You’ll want to put this on first. Apply dots or dashes with the pencil under your eyes, around your nose (or anywhere else needed). Use your fingers to gently massage and blend in a circular motion into your skin.
Formulas to consider: NUDESTIX or CoverGirl’s TruBlend Fixstick
TIP: for dryer skin use a creamier more bendable concealer formula, such as NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.
TWO: A lip & cheek color—One color that doubles as your lip and cheek color!
For this you can use a basic lipstick or lip stain, or you can opt to get a brand that advertises itself as a lip & cheek product.
To apply to cheeks, dab two to three small dots just below cheek bone. Blend and and massage in a circular and upward motion until the desired result is achieved. Add more as needed.
Apply to your lips with the applicator, finger, or lip brush.
Formulas to consider: Nars Multiple, Smashbox L.A. Lights Bendable Lip & Cheek Color and Maybelline SuperStay10 Stain gloss
TIP: When applying to cheeks, work quickly, one cheek at a time. You don’t want it to settle in one spot and not be bendable (especially for lip stains and some lipsticks).
THREE: Mascara—To darken, lengthen, or thicken your lashes and define your eyes.
Work one eye at a time, coating the lashes. Get enough coats to get the desired look, but not so many that it looks overdone. Work the wand upward and outwards to open and brighten your eyes. If you make a mistake or notice a smudge, use damp a cotton swab to clean up.
Formulas to consider: Maybelline Great Lash, MAC Haute & Naughty Lash, and Revlon PhotoReady 3D volume Mascara
TIPS: Only dip the mascara wand into the tube if you have to (every time you dip into the tube you force air into the container, drying out your formula). If you notice flaking or crumbling or heavy clumping of your mascara, it’s time to replace it.
