ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A new gem in an old friend. St. Louis’ historic Mahler Ballroom has been lovingly renovated by its new owner, Karen Halper, to become a modern event space and local destination.

To celebrate the Mahler’s renewal and more than a century’s worth of beauty, a public grand opening will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm, featuring entertainment by jump blues band Sweetie & the Toothaches, light appetizers from MaryAnn’s Tea Room and cocktails. RSVP and complimentary tickets by May 29th are required to attend. A preview opening will be held for event industry professionals on Wednesday, May 30.

Featuring modern furnishings, artwork by artists such as Christopher Guy, chandeliers from celebrity-designer Michael Amini, and bar with a cascading waterfall feature, the approximate 3,500-square-foot ballroom boasts 24-feet-high ceilings and an overlooking wrap-around balcony with eight-feet-high arched Rococo-style moldings.

Additionally, the Mahler offers several unique spaces for celebrations, including a 900-square-foot garden courtyard, private “brides room” off the ballroom, a modern furnished apartment with full kitchen for pre- and post-event rentals, and a loft-style space for smaller groups.

The Mahler Ballroom will also offer monthly ticketed entertainment experiences and periodic food and musical events that feature notable chefs and caterers, along with top musical performers. Through a partnership with TalentPlus and The Ready Room, this unique and new offering will begin in September 2018. Information on the September event will be announced at the grand opening events, and future dates and events will be available on the Mahler Ballroom’s Facebook page

Originally designed by St. Louis Union Station architect Theodore Link in 1907, the Mahler Ballroom’s three-story columns and grand exterior has made it a stately staple of the city’s Central West End for more than a century. From its early beginnings as the Mahler dancing school and ballroom to more current evolutions as a private event space, the Mahler Ballroom has had dedicated owners over the years and was recently purchased under unique circumstances.

When former Mahler Ballroom owner Marsha Shepley decided to sell in 2017, she wanted to find someone who would continue to care and evolve the Mahler. Shepley chose Halper in part due to Halper’s renovation and reinvention of her other Central West End establishments, including MaryAnn’s Tea Room and Enchanting Embellishments, and had confidence that Halper would bring the same passion to the Mahler.

The renewal of the Mahler Ballroom demonstrates Halper and her team’s meticulous attention to detail, modern style, flair for elegance, and commitment to architectural preservation. The Mahler continues in the tradition of Halper’s other Central West End properties of celebrating special occasions and bringing beauty to everyday life.
