The Importance of a Personality Slate for TalentPlus Actors and Models

At TalentPlus, we value authenticity and uniqueness, which is why we highly recommend a personality slate video for each of our talent. Unlike a traditional resume or portfolio, a personality slate offers clients a glimpse of the real you—who you are beyond the roles you've played or the projects you've worked on. This one-minute-and-fifteen-second video is your chance to introduce yourself, share a little about your personality, and let your energy shine through.

This isn't the time to recount your work history (clients can see your resume on our website), nor is it an audition. Instead, the goal is to let clients get a sense of your personality—how you speak, your presence, and your vibe. Think of it as a way to let them know who you are, not the characters you play.

Why Is A Personality Slate Important?

  • Showcasing Your Unique Energy - A personality slate helps clients understand your personal energy, which can help deciding if you're a good fit for their projects. For example, sports player introduction videos, especially in the NFL, have a rich history tied to the evolution of sports engagement & media. This format became prominent in the 1990s as part of TV broadcasts and stadium experiences to hype up fans before the game. Fans love these introductions because they personalize the players, making them more than just a number on the field. It adds a narrative element to the game, showing viewers the unique personalities, charisma, and swagger of each player. This builds excitement and anticipation, giving fans a deeper connection to the players and the game. Like sports intros, a TalentPlus personality slates offers clients a glimpse into the talent’s persona beyond the resume or portfolio. It humanizes them, builds a connection, and adds that "extra bit" that can make a difference in casting decisions. Clients, like fans, get excited about what a talent can bring to the table when they see the real person behind the headshot.

Key Tips for Your Personality Slate:

  • Be Yourself: Don’t feel the need to perform or put on a persona. The client is looking for the real you.
  • Keep It Natural: Talk about yourself in a relaxed, conversational way. Mention a few interesting things about your life or hobbies that reflect your true self.
  • Stay Positive: A warm, positive energy can go a long way. Smile and maintain good eye contact with the camera to make an engaging impression.
  • Keep It Brief: Stick to the time limit of about a minute and fifteen seconds.
  • Wardrobe: Solid colors are often best. Please avoid busy prints and obvious logos. Layers are fine. Avoid wearing a white top, as the wall you will be taped in front of is white/off white, and we don’t want you to blend in.
  • Appearance: Make sure to come camera-ready with simple makeup, hair, and wardrobe. Men, if you have facial ruddiness or blemishes, blend them out with a cosmetic product like Studio Fix by MAC Cosmetics. Women, please style your hair down, no ponytails.
  • Content: Be prepared with what you would like to chat about. Use this opportunity to showcase your personality, wit, spontaneity, interests, honors, and hobbies. Energy is important, so be well-rested and hydrated!
  • Post Production: TalentPlus will edit your slate, send a finished copy of the slate to you and upload it to your TalentPlus webpage under the 'Video' category.

Personality slates give you a platform to show your true self to potential clients and casting directors. Embrace this opportunity to shine in a way that goes beyond the projects you’ve been part of, and let your unique energy take center stage. We’re excited to see how you use this tool to elevate your presence and bookings!
